Creating Architectural Environments with 3D Studio VIZ
Importing drawings into 3D Studio

PART 2

Figure 2

When you import a drawing into 3D Studio VIZ, you can tell the application to make objects on the same layer or in the same color part of a single "object." This doesn't mean you have to make every chair, table or wall its own color, however. It just means that you might want all of the walls on a given floor to be the same color or on the same layer. If you decide you want to break a set of objects (like one table or one wall) into an independent object, it's relatively easy to do. It's just easier to work with the objects in your scenes if they aren't part of one giant object.

Follow these instructions to import a drawing file into 3D Studio VIZ:

1. From the File menu, choose Import.

2. Select viz01.dwg from the list of files.

3. Choose Open to Exit this dialog box.

4. Choose "Completely replace current scene" to indicate that you don't want to merge this file with objects in the current scene. (see Figure 1)

5. Specify that you want to derive objects by Color. When working with your drawings, you may want to select Layer instead. Choose OK to exit this dialog box.
(see Figure 2)
