Studio VIZ features tools that let you create 3D parametric-driven
doors and windows from inside the application. VIZ also features
the 3D Object Snaps that AutoCAD users have been requesting since
Release 1.0 of 3D Studio.
Follow these instructions to place a 3D Door in your scene:
1. Right-click on the Osnap Toggle
located in the panel of icons along the bottom of the screen.
2. In the Osnap Settings window, select Vertex, Midpoint and Bounding
box. This will make your cursor look for these geometric features
as you place the door. You can make VIZ stop snapping to these points
by selecting the Osnap Toggle again. (see Figure 1)
3. Exit this window by selecting the Close Window icon
in the upper-right corner of the window. Select the Osnap Toggle
to turn object snap on. Select the Create tab on the right side
of the screen to display the Create panel. You can tell this is
a tab because it is attached to the rest of the panel, not completely
enclosed like the rest of the icons are.
4. Select the Geometry icon
to indicate that you want to create an object. From the drop-down
list currently displaying Standard Primitives, select Doors. (see
Figure 2)
5. Select the Pivot Door button.
6. Select the upper-left corner of the wall indicated by the light
blue cross: (see Figure 3)
7. Select the lower-right corner of the opposite wall. (see Figure
4)
8.
Select a point above or below your last point to define an arbitrary
height for the door. If you look at the Perspective view, you will
see that VIZ has created the door, but it is above the rest of your
model. (see Figure 5)
9.
Select the Osnap toggle icon to turn it off. In the Height box,
enter 84 to specify the height of the door in inches.
10. Select the Select and Move icon
from among the line of icons at the top of the VIZ screen.
11. Select the door by clicking on it. From the Edit pull-down menu,
choose Transform Type-In.
12. In the Absolute: World window, enter 0 to move the door
down. (see Figure 6) You'll
see the door move down in the Perspective view. Exit this window.
13. Select
a point in the Perspective view.
14. Select the Min/Max Toggle to make this view fill your screen.
(see Figure 7)
